Description	Black and white photograph two men standing outside holding shovels full of dirt. The man on the left of the image is unidentified. He is wearing dark trousers, a dark shirt with a turn-down collar and the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, a dark patterned tie, a tie tack, and a dark colored brimmed hat. The man standing on the right side of the image is George Hodges. He is wearing dark colored trousers, a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, a dark colored tie, and a light colored brimmed hat with a dark colored band. The two men are pictured from their knees up. They are standing in a road. In the background there is a curb, a telephone pole, small trees, and two visible structures. Museum Label: "; 1988.7.4";

Notes	George Hartshorn Hodges, born Orion, Wisconsin, Feb. 6, 1866. Moved with parents to Kansas in 1869. Educated at Olathe public schools. Married Ora May Murray of Olathe. Their two children were Georgia Ferree and Murray Hodges. George Hodges was a business partner in Hodges Bros. Building Materials, a Kansas senator 8 years, and Governor 1913-15. He also served on the staff of General Wood during World War I. Decorated by Albert of Belgium with Golden Cross for aid to Belgians. He died in 1947. Information obtained from Johnson County Cemetery Index. An article about George Hodges was included in the Winter 1989 volume of Friends of Johnson County Museums publication, Album. See donor file for a copy of this article.
