Description	Black and white photographic of the groundbreaking of White Haven Motor Lodge in Overland Park. The view is of three people, members of the White family who owned the location, standing in front of the excavation. Mary White, at left, wears a long light-colored coat and eyeglasses. Sheila, in the middle, wears a jacket with paired buttons. Esther, at the right, wears a dark-colored coat, sunglasses, and has a scarf over her head. Mary and Esther have their hands in their coat pockets. Sheila has her hands behind her back. Several piles of dirt are in the background behind the excavation. Several posts are on the ground in the left foreground. A concrete planter is on the ground in the foreground. A barrel and a metal fence section are partially visible in the right foreground. Several houses and bare trees are in the distance. The bucket of a piece of earthmoving equipment is at the extreme left edge of the photograph. Museum label: "; 2008.39.1";

Notes	Caption on original print: "First day we started motel" From left to right: Mary, Sheila and Esther White. The Lodge was located north of 81st Street between Metcalf and Broadmoor Street. Bob White and his father, Hugh, completed the White Haven Motel's first 34 rooms in 1957. Other rooms were added in the 1960s and five nearby homes and apartments were added, eventually totally 100 rooms. The Whites developed 40 acres of Overland Park as White Haven Estates.
