J. H. Blake

J. H. Blake is a native of North Carolina; was born Dec. 17, 1831, emigrated to Mo. In ’39; was brought up on a farm until fourteen years of age; then was engaged in mercantile pursuits until he came to this county—March, ’57. He was soon after appointed County clerk and ex-officio Recorder. In ’58 he was elected to the office of Register of Deeds, and held the office until Jan. ’62. He then engaged in the mercantile business, and continued until ’68. In ’67 he was elected County Treasurer; re-elected in ’69. In July ’72 he went into the Peoples’ Savings Bank as cashier, which position he still holds. Married Miss Lucretia Hale, formerly of Wisconsin, Feb. ’62; they have a family of two sons and two daughters. A view of his residence will be seen in this work. Mr. B. lived on the border during the war, and never denied being a democrat.
