Built in 1869, Lanesfield School is the only building that remains on the town site of Lanesfield, Kansas. Programs in the one-room schoolhouse feature a costumed schoolteacher who recreates a 1904 school experience that includes writing with pen and ink, slate work and a ‘spell down.’ Students will also learn about the historic Santa Fe Trail and the Battle of Bull Creek, a Bleeding Kansas skirmish. The site’s visitor center features the exhibit Just Plain Simple: One-Room Schools in Kansas.
